This page applies only to the Home-Page Control Plugin users who have an older version of WordPress.
Unlike most WordPress plugins, just deactivating Filosofo Home-Page Control in WordPress 1.5.x doesn’t remove its effects, because it makes changes to the .htaccess
file. I haven’t had any problems, but in case something should go wrong, you should backup your .htaccess
file or have some way to edit it.
Of course, before you make any significant changes to WordPress, you should back up your database.
For versions of WordPress prior to 2.0, this plugin is really only for those who have experience in the technical details of WordPress. If talk of creating .htaccess
files, changing file permissions, or FTP makes you uneasy, and you’re using a WordPress version 1.5.x, then this plugin is not for you.
- If you’re not already using Permalinks, then it’s possible that
mod_rewrite
may not be enabled on your server. Don’t use this plugin until you’ve already successfully used permalinks. - If you don’t know how to create a file named
.htaccess
and upload it to your server or how to delete files from your server, then it’s possible if something goes wrong you will not know what to do, so don’t use this plugin.

Like this plugin? Is it worth a latte?
This month I have received $31.50 in donations for the free plugins I offer here, which is about $0.01 per download.
For WordPress 2.0, the plugin does not make any changes to the .htaccess
file, and all settings revert when the plugin is deactivated, so this warning and the un-installation instructions below don’t apply.
Un-Installation Instructions (only for WordPress versions less than 2.0)
- De-activate the plugin under Plugins in the admin control panel.
- Navigate to Options » Permalinks and press the button to update your Permalink structure. If your
.htaccess
file is not writable, you may need to copy and paste the Permalink structure into the.htaccess
file.
Worst Case Scenario Un-Installation Instructions (only for WordPress versions less than 2.0)
Let’s say for some reason that Filosofo Home-Page Control messes up everything so badly that you can’t even de-activate it under “Plugins”; (I can’t imagine how this could happen, but anyways . . . ). Here’s what you should do:
- Delete the plugin from your
wp-content/plugins
directory. This will effectively de-activate it. - Replace the
.htaccess
file with a blank file. At this point, all of Home-Page Control’s effects have been removed. - Make the
.htaccess
file writable. - Under the WordPress admin control panel, navigate to Options » Permalinks and press the button to update your Permalink structure. If your
.htaccess
file is not writable, you may need to copy and paste the Permalink structure into the.htaccess
file.
