The fire alarm in my building (which sounds like an angry cricket) went off just a few minutes ago. The alarm console in the hall was flashing “basement zone,” so I went down there to check it out, but I didn’t see anything. And then the Boston FD showed up, no more than three minutes after the alarm went off. That’s an encouraging response time.
I had to let them in the building, because no one else was around (except some workmen in a ground floor apartment who apparently set it off). The guys I let in were carrying axes. I wonder if they would have chopped through the door if no one had opened it for them.

Always nice to know when one is well-protected.
(Seems like there should be some smart retort to “I wonder if they would have chopped through the door if no one had opened it for them,” but it’s just not clicking for me now…something like “I wonder if the men with the hoses would have hosed the building down if it had been on fire.”)
Good point. I should’ve said I wonder how long it would have taken them. Do they try to find the building sup first? Or is it chop-chop after mashing all the buzzers (what the lead guy was doing when I opened the door)?
