Hi there. I'm wondering if WP 2.9 has made some change to the scheduling process that makes your plugin incompatible with the new release.
The reception of backups via mail have worked fine until I upgraded to 2.9 last week.
There is no php errors detected. This issue is happening in 3 blogs I admin and the sending of the backups stopped right after the upgrade in every case.
I also have the same problem after upgrading to WP 2.9. I also noticed that in the config page (Tools:Backup) although I select the radio button option to 'Email Backup to:' it never gets saved. It always stays set to 'Download to your computer'.
When I selected "Email backup to", the radio button was back to "Download to your computer" and it started to back up the database then sent to my mail box. It means the scheduled mail function doesn't work.
When I try to do a 'backup now' with 'email me' option, the backup works fine, but when it tries to email me, I get the following error: "The following errors were reported: mail() [function.mail]: Failed to Send" Not sure if this is a plugin issue or with my hosting. Any advice?

That section does not handle scheduled backups, just one-time backups.
Go further down the page to "Scheduled Backup" to schedule a regular backup.

Do you receive other emails from WordPress? In other words, does your email client work at all?
If so, ask your host to look at the mail logs to see the error that prevented this email from sending. Perhaps the file size of the attachment is too big?
Very strange. I was also suffering from the problem of the backup no longer being scheduled but having just upgraded to WP 2.9.1 the backup schedule just kicked in and I have now received my "normal" backup email.
Yes, what happened was that WordPress 2.9 messed up how WordPress's scheduling system (called the WP "cron") worked for some people, and 2.9.1 fixed it.
WP 2.9.1 didn't fix the problem for me, scheduled backups still don't work (are apparently not even tiggered), while manually triggered backups work just fine.
I am using WP 2.9.1 and plug in 2.2.2 on a MAC using Safari
The last time I received a back up file was Dec. 26th.
I also noticed that in the config page (Tools:Backup) although I select the radio button option to 'Email Backup to:' it never gets saved. It always stays set to 'Download to your computer'.
Do you still get other emails from WordPress, such as comment notifications?
Do you have access to your site server's error logs? Can you see any error messages in them from the time you unsuccessfully attempted to make a backup?

Have a Happy New Year!
Same for me here! I've had to manually do updates everyday. Let us know how to fix!
Cheers!

I think the fixes in 2.9.1 should address the email problems you've been having. Let me know if they don't.
Just upgraded to WP 2.9.1, but email function is not workable.
Bryan, can you elaborate please? What are doing, and what is failing to work?
Please see the screen capture below:

Backup Option is always on "Download to your computer" and "Email backup to" could not be selected!
What do you mean "email back to" could not be selected? What happens when you click that radio button? It doesn't appear disabled in the screen shot.
What browser and version are you using?

It "looks" like 2.9.1 has corrected the problem.

The back up has kicked in again and now seem to be working. I received a back up file via e-mail today. Will keep a close watch. Thanks
Well, somehow it started to work for me as well (after sitting there for a week doing nothing). Just don't ask, I really have not touched anything.
