I had the need to change my SQL database password recently.
I then noticed a few weeks later that I was no longer getting emailed backups, this had previously worked fine for months.
I note that DB_PASSWORD is used in the creation of a directory on the server, I have now manually run a backup and all is working again but it seems that the cron process does not create the necessary folder.
I just thought you should know in case someone presents with a similar problem, or if you can apply a fix.
