[...] Why do people have to be aware of what is skin cancer? This is simply because cancer takes away many lives every year. There are many types and forms of cancer that can arise due to various causes, but the most common of them all is skin cancer. Many people ask, “What is skin cancer?” As popular and widely occurring disease skin cancer is, there are still a lot of individuals who have very little knowledge of its nature, symptoms, prevention, and cure. What is skin cancer and how to identify its symptoms? Skin cancer affects more or less one million people every year, according to recorded cases. It is characterized by a suspicious skin growth that can usually be detected while at an early stage. There is commonly a change in appearance of the skin and an occurrence of a sore that does not seem to heal over time. Three types of skin cancer In order to gain enough knowledge of what is skin cancer, it is important to identify its kinds. Skin cancer is classified into three types, of varying degrees and severity. The first and least dangerous of all is Basal cell carcinoma. This type of cancer does not spread to neighboring body parts and organs and has almost 100% cure rate. The second type is Squamous cell carcinoma. Like basal cell carcinoma, this type is non-melanoma. However, it has the tendency to metastasize and affect other body regions. The last and most severe form of skin cancer is Melanoma. This one is fatal and has taken millions of lives over the past years. Since skin cancer can be detected while still at a very early stage, there is a high possibility for treatment and cure especially if the patient has enough knowledge of what is skin cancer and its symptoms. If an irregularity in skin appearance or a suspicious growth is discovered, seek professional opinion immediately.
