A very to the point summation of the matter. I came across this by accident, but as a UCI student who graduated from a Calvary Chapel high school I have only good things to say about my high school education. When I entered college some of my UC peers were thoroughly informed in minority studies from high school but had little idea how to write and structure a paper. A useful skill my English teacher hammered into us which enabled me to win a $1500 scholarship my first year for a paper I wrote.
Your commentary regarding skeptical students mental sharpness is one I often feel myself, because I do not just ingest what my professors tell me but I have to examine it and ascertain why or why not I agree with it due to its usually liberal nature. This breakdown of the argument requires more work, especially if I'm to counter it in a paper.

And if the proof is in the pudding: I've been on the Dean's List all but 2 quarters and I am graduating this year.
